week 9

I feel that it is important for children to learn to lose because it builds character and teaches them sportsmanship. I also feel that all children need to learn what it means to loose, because failure is always a possibility and nobody wins all of the time. There are so many children that feel that they are owed something and they also feel that they should not work hard for things. In life people are not obligated to achieve things, so I feel that children need to learn that with the good things come the bad things.

week 9

I feel that people should learn from history because if they don’t they will repeat the same mistakes. I think that when people didn’t learn from the signs of Hitler and his holocaust, they remembered later when Africa had the Genocide. I think that there are signs that are displayed and when we as a society choose to ignore these sign we learn once again in tragic ways. I also feel that when we forget what too much power does to a person we remember in tragic ways. Castro for many years has kept his people oppressed and finally after all those years they have been given some opportunities to make decisions.

Week 9

I feel that a lie is a moral puzzle, because when you tell one like you usually have to cover that lie up with another. Soon the lies start to build up and one has to make sure that each lie fits neatly with the other one. It is often said that one lie spawns another and so on. Also the lies that are told affect people other than the person who is telling them. These lies also can cause chaos and drama on a larger level. Lies are like a puzzle because things are not always what they seem to be, and just when you think all the pieces fit you find that you have missed something.

week 8

Sometimes in life all we have are appearances. Sometime people never really let you get to know them so the only thing that a person can do is go by what they say. Also we tend to believe that if a person is beautiful on the outside then they are also beautiful on the inside. I feel that in the technology age we are use to things coming easily and without much effort. So instead of getting to know a person for who they are we tend to take the fast approach and look on the outside for what is within.

week 8

We ascribe values and status to a job by the amount of power and money a person has. Two things that a people find most appealing are power and money. This is because if a person has power then they can dictate to other anything that they want. Power gives a person control and a lot of people want to control to feel important. The other is money, because if a person has money they can do things that the average person cannot. If a person has a job that pays then a lot of money, that person can then live a life that many others cannot imagine living. With these things in consideration, as long as you have money and power your job will always be one of value.

week 8

There are several things that one should know about the interview process. The first is when you find out about your interview you should read as much as you can about the company and the position that you are applying for. The applicant should be well read on these subjects in case the employer want to know what the applicant knows. The next thing that the applicant should know is how to dress for success. Perception is everything and if you give the impression that you are a well educated then people will view you as such. Also any tattoos or piercing that are showing should be covered up or concealed.

week 8

I feel that we pay a big price for progress. I also feel that we sometimes give up things in order to achieve progress. Right now we are giving up several soldiers’ lives in order to obtain peace and order in another part of the world. There are always causalities in war and sometimes we have to weather the storm in order to see the progress. Unfortunately, we are not always around to see the outcome of the sacrifice that we have made.

week 8

If I were talking to a group of high school students about college I would tell them that college is a lot different from high school. I would also tell them that in the real world you have to have at least a high school education to get a job at McDonalds. So this means that to get any other job there will be many more requirements than this. I would emphasize that in order to achieve a comfortable way of life they would need to work hard to obtain a college degree. I would also tell them that in the corporate world a B.S degree is about the equivalent of a high school diploma.

week 7

I don’t know if I have any risk in my life. I try to live my life in a positive way, and treat others the way I would want to be treated. I am now focused on my happiness for the first time in my life; I have always been a person to put a lot of stock in others and their feelings and none in my own. I have just learned to be careful about the decisions I make and not take things for granted. I have learned a lot that some of my peers can’t ever fathom

week 7

Physical attractiveness is very important in today’s society. There are companies that are making billions of dollars a year selling product that promise to fix, lift, or clear any problem that the consumer is having. There are also doctors out there who have a procedure that will lift, clear, fix, tighten any body part. I feel that it is unfortunate that we have become some invested in what a person looks like and not who they are. We now teach little girls it is more important to be pretty than it is to be smart or a good person.

week 7

I feel that the long term effects of childhood experiences help mold and shape who a person is. I also feel that it is all about perception and how a person’s experiences affect them later in life. If a person that has been through terrible things never comes to terms with those situations they might tend to be angry and vengeful latter in life. It is known that everything that a person goes through in life has some impact on them. Also childhood is a very important time in life because that is when we develop who we are and how we will be later on in life. All the experiences in life that we go through have lasting effects on our lives whether they are good or bad

week 7

I feel that they way we dress really affect how the world see’s us. In today’s society your appearance is everything and if you dress like a thug or a prostitute people will perceiver you as such. Unfortunately, most times in our society you have to conform to society’s norms in order to be perceived as a member and not an outcast. There are people who have tattoos, piercings and other body art that have to hide their art in order for people to view them in a positive light and I think that that is unfair. However I feel that in the professional world if you dress unprofessionally you should be viewed negatively. I feel that there is a time and a place for everything and that sometimes people should learn their boundaries.

week 7

I feel that it is stupid to change the way that the word woman is spelled. I don’t really understand what the purpose is behind changing the spelling. It amazes me how people have nothing else better to do than find things to pick to death. I don’t understand what the big deal is about having the word men in it. There are so many things that need to be changed about focused on and this is not one of them I feel.

week 5

I think that gender differences are somewhat real. I feel that just because there are a lot of men who are taller than women does not make all men taller than women. Also I feel we learn through socialization so boys tend to learn that they should play with trucks and be dirty, while girls learn to play with dolls, bake cakes, and stay pristine. However there are some boys that grow up with only women and tend to take on some of the roles of a woman. I also think that some of these things are innate and that not all women are feminine and not all men are masculine.

week 5

I cannot think of any words or phrases that are taboo in my culture, however I can think of some actions. One of them is sweeping a person’s feet, they say that if you get your feet swept you will go to jail or either you will not get married. Another one is if you see a woman naked you will not get married. Another saying is if your right hand is itching you will get some money. One more that I can think of is you should not walk around with one shoe off, I am not aware of what this means, but my grandmother is very adamant about me not doing it

week 5

The audience in my ad is women who want to be fit. The image is of a woman who is physically fit and happy. The way that they grab the reader’s attention is by showing a woman who is physically fit and the ad goes on to talk about how she uses their protein powder to make her body fit. The ad also talks about the different contest that she has won and in what years she has won them. I feel that the ad is persuasive, because they make the reader feel that if they use this protein shake they will also look the way the model does.

week 5

I feel that if a person has the internet then they have infinite knowledge at the tip of their fingers. Today a person can turn on their computer and find out about almost anything that they want to find out about, within a matter of moments. Also they can search for jobs, houses and merchandise without ever leaving their home. So I would say that a person can have more success if they have the internet, because their resources are only limited to their effort. Today there are so many opportunities to grow and develop and the internet makes it so much easier to obtain the success.

Week 5

I would not say that men are smarter than women; however men and women excel at different things. Most men are not good at multitasking and can only deal with one thing at a time. However men are better with their hands and are great with maps. I don’t feel that it can be summed up by saying that men are women are smarter. Also in studies that have been done they have found that women and men score about the same across the board. Something else to consider is that no matter what there will always be extraneous variables.

Week 3

Question 5
I feel that sex has nothing to do with judging masculinity and femininity. I don’t see how sex could validate how masculine or feminine you are. I know that society a man is not a man if he has not had sex by a certain age, and his peers will look down upon him for not being experienced. However if a girl has sex with a lot of guy she is looked down upon and often marked as not the type of girl you would take home to your mother. So I guess I feel that for me if you have not had sex with a lot of people then you would be better represented in my eyes because there are so many diseases that are going around.

Week 3

Question 4
I feel that the scientific progress should be limited, because when we look at cloning and stem cell research we are putting lives at risk. When the topic of cloning came up it was a dangerous one. I felt this way because even though there are good things about it there are also the bad. If a person gets sick can that person get a clone and then harvest the clone’s organs for their own use. Then you have to think about the rights that the clone should have or whether they should have them or not. Do we consider the clone as a human or an object? I feel that when it comes to the scientific progress there should be regulations.

Week 3

Question 3
It depends on what you mean by sexuality. If we are talking about sexuality as for as intercourse, then I would say that we need as a society need to focus more on developing healthy relationships and less on the physical aspect. I also feel that the media does glorify sex and being sexy, therefore leading some young girls to think that the only way to get love is through sex. Now on the other side of that parents have to start at home to teach their children what is valuable and what their focus should be. Children can only learn what is taught to them and if they have the right people teaching them then what the media puts out there won’t matter as much.

Week 3

Question 2
I think that no matter what we do there will always be people who still believe in the Jim Crow Laws and they will then teach those beliefs to their children. I feel that we have come a long way in a short amount of time, but we have a long way to go. It amazes me that it hasn’t been fifty years since the civil rights movement and things have progressed so much. However as long as “the good ole boys” are still teaching their younger generations to hate I think that nothing will change. People often fear what they do not understand and ignorance is bliss.

Week 3

Question 1
Sometimes when I enter convenient stores I notice that the owners stare at me. I am not sure if they stare at all of the patrons of if they only stare at African American’s. I have also noticed that I walk up and down the aisles that they tend to follow me as I shop. I feel that it is unfortunate that all people are treated a certain way because of how a few act. I believe that no matter how far we progress as a people there will always be people out there who will still be stuck 1800’s America or 1930’s-40’s Germany.
